Who ever knew picking an educational path for your children would way so heavy on your heart, right? My husband and I had countless conversations about what we wanted for our children when it came to picking their educational path. Each time we ended our conversation undecided and unsure if whatever decision we made would be the right one.
There are so many things that you must take into consideration when making a choice. Each child is so different, and each child would bloom differently with each choice. So, when our first child was about to start VPK we placed him in a faith based private school. We made this choice for so many reasons, class size, creating character lead by faith and quite frankly we live in Florida, and we just didn't want our children to be subject to the public school shanigans that we just don't believe in. Let it be heard that girls, there is nothing wrong with public school! My mother has been a public-school teacher in our county for 24 years, and I personally attended public school for my whole education career, and I think I turned out alright girls! On the contrary, I think it's always important to consider your demographics and never forget that while we were just fine here, times are different to say the least. Ponder on that...
Fast forward a few years. The beautiful school that all of my children have now attended only went through kindergarten. So sad right? It also had a hybrid program through fifth grade. Have you girls heard of hybrid school? This is such a unique option for education. It ties homeschooling into an also more structured part time school day. For first grade we utilized this for our oldest son. Ok girls tell me if you are with me on this.... My oldest son is strong willed, wild in spirit, full of energy and not too interested in sitting to “do school”. Learning that the homeschool option takes structure but also still takes time and this can be hard for young children to understand. As our children are young, a school day shouldn't be a whole school day, right? So, girls if you are thinking about homeschooling, I am telling you they can complete their work in just a couple hours! Crazy right!
Picking the right curriculum is so important and if you choose the hybrid option, part of the cost associated with this means you don't have to pick the curriculum, they do! Whoop! Whoop! Win for Momma! They literally guide you, make lesson plans and pretty much do all the homework for you. This is an awesome tool for homeschoolers! We loved this Manipulative Kit and it went perfectly with our Saxon math curriculum. Just a piece of the amazing curriculum we used! And honestly you can use this tool with any curriculum! I loved that homeschool curriculum teaches you things that are actually important. You know, like what a penny and a quarter are and that you need phonics to learn! So, I will tell you, I am not a natural born teacher so this part of it was hard for me. While I had every tool I need in the curriculum, teaching in this fashion was not for me. My wild in spirit child and I had good days and challenging as you can imagine. This is where you have to remember learning without tears. You need these resources in your life, trust me! Imagine a normal chaotic day and then through a little “must do education” in there. And then lots of Tears!? There are some incredible resources for this, utilize them for your sanity girls! Trust me! Homeschool definitely has an incredible place in the right house with the right child. Is that you girls? Ok next option, yes, I literally have done it all.
This girl is my last and final suggestion when it comes to education. Remember this statement, this is what is best for my family and our life. That is what you always have to base your choice on. Not what someone else is doing or what someone else says you should do.
This year something incredible happened for our family and girl we feel blessed! One week before school started, all three of our children got in to the same Christian private school. We couldn't have felt more grateful. It is so hard to get into private schools in Florida, I assume it may be the same way where you live. Here, so many great things have happened for us. The learning techniques and strategies are perfect for all our children. They are in the same school! They love learning in this environment. I want this for your family too!
